RENO, Nev. (AP) -- The U.S. Labor Department has awarded more than $8 million in grants to develop job training programs focused on mining and manufacturing at three community colleges in Nevada, including $4 million for Great Basin Community College in Elko.

Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno is getting $3.2 million and Western Nevada College in Carson City $1.5 million as part of the more than $474 million in grants Labor Secretary Thomas Perez announced nationally on Wednesday.

All three colleges have been working in conjunction with employers and the Nevada Department of Employment to identify the most pressing needs for job training in the state.

They include manufacturing, applied industrial technology, welding, machine tooling and computer technology.
